The best money they have ever spent

Dabo Swinney’s high school football camp kicked off on Tuesday, hosting over 900 campers across the nation. Amongst these campers were some of the top prospects in the country.

The campers get to experience workouts under the direction of the Clemson coaching staff, other college coaches, current players, and previous players.

Along with the campers, their parents are able to watch their kids practice and work out with the camps coaching staff.

The Clemson Insider was able to catch up with some of parents to see how their experience has been so far.

A father of one of campers said Tuesday that his son has been attending the camp for a few years now. What brings them to the event every year is the closeness and atmosphere of the program.

Two parents from Myrtle Beach told The Clemson Insider this is their first time attending Clemson’s football camp and it has been the best yet. They were very impressed by the organization and structure of the camp.

“We really like how each camper has been able to get reps in instead of just waiting around,” the couple told TCI during the second practice of Tuesday’s session.

They didn’t forget to mention how much they enjoyed Clemson’s indoor football facility and the luxury of being able to watch their kid practice in the air conditioning.

A family, who has attended the camp for eight years, also mentioned how organized the camp was due to the vast number of coaches, players and volunteer assistants all helping out. They noted one of their favorite aspects of the camp is how the coaching experience is up close and personal and how it is a great opportunity for the campers to improve on their technique.

“It’s the best money I have ever spent,” the father said. “It’s not a combine. It’s a camp.”

The high school camps host three different sessions, Tuesday-Thursday this week and June 14-16.

“The comments we get from most of the parents is schools don’t do this anymore. A lot of schools just want you in and out. They just want to see you run and then get off their campus,” said Mike Dooley, who is the director of Swinney’s football camps, as well as his director of high school relations and player personnel. “At our camp, we are actually teaching them about football and teaching them life lessons along the way.”
