5-star Lawrence closing in on decision

Cartersville High School (Cartersville, Georgia) quarterback Trevor Lawrence will make a decision on where he will play college football by the end of July, Lawrence’s father, Jeremy, told The Clemson Insider on Thursday.

Trevor came to Clemson to participate in Dabo Swinney’s Football Camp on Thursday. He and his parents arrived in town on Wednesday. The 6-foot-6, 201-pound quarterback did participate in individual drills during camp and of course had conversations with Swinney, quarterbacks coach Brandon Streeter and co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott.

Trevor is considered to be the No. 1 prospect in the country for the Class of 2018 by many analysts. Before coming to Clemson on Thursday, he spent time at Georgia last weekend.

“It has been a long and tiring process,” Jeremy said.

Clemson has been high on Trevor’s list since the beginning with Georgia and Tennessee being the biggest competition. Florida is also in the running for his services.

Lawrence’s father says they are looking forward to being done with the process. They will shut it all down in a few weeks once Trevor makes his decision.

“He wants to concentrate on the football season and helping his high school team win,” Jeremy said.

Cartersville is expected to have a young team this year, especially at wide receiver, so Trevor wants to get back to working with those guys and getting better.

Once Trevor makes his commitment, he will try not to talk too many people during the season. His dad said Trevor wants to concentrate just on his team and helping them win. Jeremy told his son, even though he has made a decision on where he wants to go, other schools and recruiting sites will still be calling him and bothering him so they will try to do their best to limit that as much as possible.

As for Clemson, Trevor really likes the coaching staff. He likes how young and energetic they are and he really likes the offense because it is the same offense they run at his high school so that familiarity helps.

Trevor’s dad said the offense Trevor will be in will be a big deal to them. He said his son is not a dual threat quarterback. He runs a 4.7.

Jeremy said they really enjoy coming to Clemson. They love the campus and they love the people. They say everyone is always nice and friendly.

Sources tell TCI there is a lot of pressure on Lawrence to stay in-state and head to Georgia and a lot of people are trying to steer him in that direction. We believe that if he does decide to leave the state he will be a Tiger.

The Clemson staff has built a strong relationship since jumping on board early with an offer with both Trevor and his parents. The depth chart at Clemson is not a concern for Lawrence from what we have been told.

The Tigers will try to get Lawrence and his parent back on campus for the All-In Cookout or another time in July before he makes his final decision. Stay tuned to TCI for the latest.
