Top 100 prospect Mitchell Miller couldn’t be happier after giving a commitment to the Clemson Tigers on Monday after a visit.
“Ever since I was little I wanted to go to Clemson,” Miller told The Clemson Insider on Monday. “My sister went up to Clemson on visit when I was in the seventh grade. I fell in love with the campus. Then I went up for a visit when I was in the tenth grade.”
Clemson pounced on the chance to land the top left-handed pitcher in Georgia once he was granted a release from Mississippi State.
“Clemson was at the top of my list, but they didn’t offer originally,” he said. “Mississippi State did so I committed there. But once I heard we were going to have our third coaching change I filed for my release. When I got it, Clemson was the first team to show interest.”
Clemson assistant coach Bradley LeCroy was quick to call Miller after recruiting him for several years.
“Coach LeCroy recruited me before and had me on my visit in the 10th grade. He had come to see me play with Austin Meadows,” Miller said.
The Tigers beat out a number of top programs that tried to land Miller once he got his release.
“I had some other ACC schools interested and Oklahoma State called,” he said. “I gave Clemson the first chance. I went up there today for a visit and it was just like when I visited in the 10th grade. It was a dream come true.”
After his quick commitment to the Tigers, Miller can’t wait to get to Clemson.
“I want to get to Clemson as soon as I can. I am trying to get there in July. I hope to be able to start July 13. If not I will be there in August,” he said.
The Clemson staff told the Georgia standout he can compete for a starting job in 2017.
“My goal is to compete and to win a weekend spot,” Miller said.
What does it feel like to be a Tiger?
