It has been a busy summer for four-star athlete Dakereon Joyner who camped at Clemson in early June. After camping at Clemson he visited other schools as well.
“I have been to South Carolina and NC State,” Joyner told The Clemson Insider. “I drove to Raleigh and I really enjoyed my time there. We worked out a little bit, but it gave us a chance to get all the recruits together. They had most of their 2017 commitments there.”
After visiting NC State Joyner visited South Carolina.
“Then I drove to Columbia that night. It was a nice day. We just played some games and had a chance to communicate with the coaches,” said Joyner.
The day after he left the South Carolina visit Joyner had a conversation with Clemson co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott that helped clear the air.
“I talked with Coach Elliott the day after I came back from South Carolina. It’s not that I can’t play quarterback at Clemson they are just recruiting me as an athlete. I will still have the opportunity to play quarterback at Clemson. If that doesn’t workout I can play another position,” Joyner said.
Joyner had previously told TCI he would only go where he could play quarterback. How did the conversation with Elliott change his opinion of the Tigers?
“I am not sure. It really doesn’t matter. At the end of the day I will go with my heart. Only time will tell,” he said.
When asked about his current leaders, Joyner responded, “I don’t have any leaders right now. I have narrowed it down to a top five, but I’m not ready to release it”.
Is Clemson in the top five?
“Yes sir, Clemson is in,” Joyner said.
The Fort Dorchester High School standout is ready to lead his team to another state championship.
“We just started practice on Friday. We got back this week and started camp. I am ready to lead my team to another state championship. I am really excited,” Joyner said.
