Touted Florida tackle has high interest in Clemson

Apopka (Fla.) high-four star 2018 offensive tackle William Barnes, a consensus top-115 prospect nationally and a top-15 tackle, has liked Clemson since he was a freshman.

Now a junior with over a dozen scholarship offers, highlighted by Florida, Florida State, Miami, Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State and Tennessee, Barnes would love to add one from Clemson.

“Still hoping,” Barnes said in an interview with TCI.

Barnes visited Clemson for the second session of the Dabo Swinney Camp last June. The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder was named MVP of the 2016 Orlando Rivals Camp Series in February.

Barnes told TCI in November that Clemson is one of his favorite schools.

“The school is beautiful,” Barnes said then. “And the people are great, and I just love running down the hill.”

Auburn, Florida, Florida State and North Carolina are a few of the schools standing out to Barnes right now.

Barnes has several visits planned for the offseason to Florida, North Carolina, Florida State and Auburn.

He hopes to get to Clemson again at some point in the future.

“Absolutely,” he said.

Barnes, who is rated as the country’s No. 53 prospect and No. 6 tackle by Rivals.com, helped lead Apopka High to a 9-1 record as a junior. He anchored the front line of an offense that averaged 47.5 points per game.

A big, physical and athletic lineman, Barnes has all of the tools, and he is hard at work honing his craft.

“I’ll be working on my flexibility and strength a lot this season,” Barnes said.

Barnes is already looking forward to his senior season.

“I’m ready to go all out this year, as it is my last,” Barnes said. “We are expecting to do big things next year.”
