Saint Simons Island (Ga.) Frederica Academy four-star wide receiver Jashawn Sheffield received his second visit from a Clemson coach in as many months on Tuesday when area recruiter Danny Pearman stopped by his high school to check in.
The Clemson Insider spoke with Sheffield, one of the top prospects in the 2019 class, who also met with Clemson co-offensive coordinator and receivers coach Jeff Scott at his school last month.
“It was a good visit,” Sheffield said of his visit with Pearman. “We talked about me visiting.”
Sheffield is rated by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 1 receiver in his class, the No. 2 prospect in Georgia and the No. 6 prospect overall. The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder has already accumulated nearly 20 offers, highlighted by ones from Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State and Tennessee among others.
Sheffield last visited Clemson in June for the Dabo Swinney Camp. He also visited in March and hopes to return again in the spring.
“Hopefully sometime this spring,” Sheffield said. “I want to see the new stuff.”
Sheffield is one of just two receivers in the 2019 class who hold an offer from Clemson. Clemson has made him a priority, and he has built a strong relationship with the staff, Scott in particular.
“Always is good when they come by,” Sheffield said. “I have a lot of respect for the Clemson staff.”
Sheffield told TCI last month that Ohio State and Clemson were his leaders. That is still the case, with another school having joined the frontrunners.
“And Georgia. Georgia is coming on strong,” Sheffield said.
Sheffield is being recruited as an athlete by some schools, but Clemson is recruiting him as a receiver.
As a sophomore, Sheffield totaled 1,102 yards, including 810 rushing and 134 receiving, with 13 touchdowns. As a freshman, he had 753 rushing yards and 316 receiving yards.
