Up-and-coming Maryland recruit excited to visit Clemson

A pair of freshmen from Maryland who already account for more than a dozen scholarship offers between them will visit Clemson for the first time next month.

Laurel-St. Vincent Pallotti 2020 teammates Coziah Izzard, a tight end/defensive end/linebacker, and Blake Corum, a running back, were invited to Clemson’s second Junior Day of the year on March 4.

The Clemson Insider spoke with Izzard, who said he is looking forward to the trip.

“I’m just excited to go see how the National Champions do things,” Izzard said. “I just really like how it looks like a family environment. My high school coaches preach the same thing about family.”

Izzard and Corum both received offers from in-state Maryland just five games into their varsity careers last September.

Corum has collected offers from East Carolina, Michigan State, North Carolina, Rutgers, South Carolina, Temple and Toledo since then. Meanwhile, Izzard has added offers from Buffalo, East Carolina, Michigan State and Wake Forest.

Izzard plays both ways as a tight end, weak-side defensive and outside linebacker, but many expect him to end up on the defensive side of the ball in college. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder already looks the part with his great size, length and explosiveness.

“My head coach spoke with the defensive coordinator (Brent Venables) and he said he liked my film,” Izzard said. “The D-line coach (Todd Bates) came by the school and they all followed me on Twitter.”

“They told my coach they like my physicality and I played beyond my years,” he added.

The interest between Clemson and Izzard is mutual.

“I like everything about Clemson,” he said. “It would be a dream come true if they offered.”

Izzard said his hometown school Maryland stands out among his early offers, though his recruitment is wide open with more than three years left until he has to make a decision.

“Of course the hometown team Maryland, but I’m keeping my options open,” Izzard said. “I like all of them. As of right now I’m just focused on school and trying to get another championship with my team.”

Izzard, Corum and St. Vincent Pallotti won the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference title in November with a victory over Boys’ Latin (Baltimore).

Izzard said Notre Dame, Indiana, Boston College, Virginia, Duke and Oregon are also showing interest along with the schools that have offered.
