Gaffney (S.C.) 2018 wide receiver Dennis Smith, who picked up a coveted Clemson offer during his junior day visit on March 4, is slated to return for the Tigers’ spring game on April 8.

He will be accompanied by teammate and 2019 safety Tyron Hopper, who spoke with The Clemson Insider ahead of the visit.

“I really want to see how the coaches react with the players and stuff like that,” Hopper said. “I want to meet the DBs coach. I’d love to do that.”

Hopper landed his first offer from South Carolina last week. Appalachian State, East Carolina, North Carolina, N.C. State and Virginia Tech are showing interest.

An offer from the other major in-state school wouldn’t just be big for Hopper, but his family too.

“It would mean a lot. My family really loves Clemson,” Hopper said. “They’re big Clemson fans. It would mean a lot to me and my family.”

“I love their football team, and they have a lot of great stuff up there,” he added. “I know Dabo is a great coach. It would be good being around a great coach like him.”

As a sophomore last season, Hopper had 31 tackles and two interceptions while playing cornerback for Gaffney. The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder is listed as a safety, the position he projects to play at the next level.

Hopper feels he has the tools to be an asset on a college defense in the future.

“I’m a big DB. At 6-2, I’m pretty big for my size,” Hopper said. “I’m just as big as some of the corners that’s going into some of these big colleges. I’m just as fast. I’m strong. So, I feel like I can put a lot on the table.”

Hopper is also visiting North Carolina, N.C. State and Wake Forest this weekend.
