The fifth-ranked Clemson Tigers defeated Winthrop 6-5 in the 11th inning thanks to a walk-off RBI single from Reed Rohlman.
Clemson jumped out to a lead in the first inning against Winthrop. With one out Seth Beer singled to left field and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Chris Williams singled with two outs and Seth just beat the tag at home. The Tigers led 1-0 after the first.
In the bottom of the fourth inning Clemson battled back scoring three runs to tie the game. After three consecutive singles from Jackson, Davidson, and Cox, Wharton hit a sacrifice fly to score Jackson. Byrd then singled to left field, which scored Davidson making it 4-3. After Greene drew a walk Beer hit a sacrifice fly that scored Cox making it 4-4.
Seth Beer hit what looked like a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth but it was called foul and the Tigers stranded two.
Chris Williams hit a solo home run to leadoff the bottom of the seventh.
Winthrop fought back and tied the game in the top of the ninth.
Chase Pinder walked to start the 11th. Chris Williams hit a slow grounder that advanced Pinder to second. Weston Jackson singled to advance Pinder to third. Logan Davidson was walked to bring Andrew Cox to the plate with the bases loaded. Cox grounded out. Reed Rohlman singled to score Jackson and the Tigers won.
Paul Campbell got the start for the Tigers but it was a short night. Campbell went 2.0 innings and gave up six hits, three runs and one earned run. Jeremy Beasley relieved Campbell and pitched well going 3.1 innings and only giving up two hits, one run and one earned run. Jacob Hennessy went 2.2 innings and only gave up two hits and no runs. Ryley Gilliam pitched the ninth and gave up one hit and one run. Brooks Crawford came in to pitch the tenth but ran into trouble. Ryan Miller closed the door in the tenth and got a 1-2-3 inning in the 11th.
The Tigers moved to 22-4 on the season. Clemson travels to Atlanta for a series with Georgia Tech this weekend.
