Forty-four former Clemson football players are on NFL rosters entering training camps for the 32 league teams this week. The number does not include three players who are free agents and four others who are on rosters in the Canadian Football League.
Here are some notes on the Tigers on NFL rosters as of July 27, 2017:
- Clemson has 44 former players on NFL rosters, 24 defensive players, 18 offensive players and two special teams players.
- As far as former Tigers by position, there are eight wide receives, seven defensive ends, six defensive tackles, five cornerbacks, three safeties, three linebackers, three running backs, two tight ends, two offensive tackles, two offensive guards and one placekicker, one punter and one quarterback.
- As far as the most popular teams among former Tigers, the Houston Texans lead the way with four, including 2016 quarterback Deshaun Watson and 2016 All-American defensive tackle Carlos Watkins.
- At least one former Tiger is on 21 of the 32 teams. As stated Houston leads with four, followed by the Chargers, Giants, Jets, Dolphins and Chiefs with three apiece.
- Nine members of Clemson’s 2016 National Champions are on rosters entering camp. That includes six drafted players and three free agents. There are nine players in their second year in the league, 10 in their third, four in their fourth, four in their fifth, five in their sixth year, two in their seventh and one in their eighth (C.J. Spiller).
- Four former Tigers are already playing regular season games in the Canadian Football League. Those players include Da’Quan Bowers (Edmonton), Crezdon Butler (Saskatchewan), Kavell Conner (Hamilton) and Antoine McClain (Calgary).
- As far as recent Clemson teams that have produced NFL talent, 25 members of the 2014 team are on NFL rosters this summer, 17 from the 2015 team and nine from the 2016 team.
- All 44 former Tigers on NFL rosters played for Coach Dabo Swinney at Clemson.
