Loganville (Ga.) Grayson tight end Beau DeBerry is already hitting the recruiting scene as a sophomore. This season, the talented class of 2020 prospect has taken in games at Alabama, Florida, Florida State and Georgia along with Clemson.

DeBerry (6-4, 205) made the visit to Clemson for the Georgia Tech game last month and was blown away by his time on campus.

“I loved it,” he told The Clemson Insider. “Truly one of the best if not the best visit I’ve been on this year. Coach (Mickey) Conn and coach (Mike) Reed really made the experience better. I love the environment and the atmosphere. It was also the most organized college visit I’ve been on this year. I loved the whole process, and the new facility was amazing.

“Overall I loved it there and the Clemson family and culture.”

Mickey Conn served as the head coach at Grayson for 16 years before being hired by Clemson in 2016.

DeBerry is close friends with Conn’s sons, so he and Conn have established a strong relationship over the years.

“It’s really good,” DeBerry said. “I’m really close with his family. His wife and his two sons, Brodey and Spencer, both are like little brothers to me. We grew up together about six to seven years ago and have known each other since.”

DeBerry was able to catch up with Conn while on campus and also spent time with Clemson assistant Mike Reed.

“They talked about how Clemson is home and how I belong there,” DeBerry said. “They are really awesome coaches and people. I respect both of them a lot.”

Along with Clemson, DeBerry said Alabama, Auburn, Duke, Florida, Florida State and Georgia are showing interest.

DeBerry tries to model his game after New England Patriots star Rob Gronkowski. He feels his strength is his ball skills, and said the coaches like his ability as a blocker as well.

“They like my blocking in general,” DeBerry said, “how you can put me out in space and I can block a DB, or you can line me up as an H-back and tell me to go block a linebacker or just put me at the traditional tight end spot and block a defensive end.”

DeBerry squats 380 pounds and benches 250. He is good off the field, too, with a 3.6 GPA. He was a freshman on the Grayson team that won the 7A state championship last season led by quarterback Chase Brice, who is now a redshirt freshman at Clemson.
