FSU legacy commit eyeing Clemson

Delray Beach (Fla.) American Heritage four-star defensive end/tight end Michael Morris committed to Florida State as a freshman last February. His father is former FSU offensive lineman Mike Morris, who played for the Seminoles in the late 1980s.

Despite the coaching change at FSU, Morris remains committed to the program. But the standout Class of 2019 prospect continues to be pursued by other schools, so he is keeping his recruitment open.

“It’s going good,” Morris said of the recruiting process. “I’m just keeping it open-minded right now.”

Clemson is one of the programs involved. Morris said he spoke frequently with Clemson defensive line coach Todd Bates before the dead period commenced in mid-December.

“He just wanted me to see the facilities,” Morris said. “He was really trying to build a relationship with me, and I did build a relationship with him. He’s a good dude.”

Morris will get a chance to check out the facilities and more this weekend, as he is slated to attend Clemson’s elite junior day.

It will mark the first visit to Clemson for Morris, who gave his thoughts on Dabo Swinney’s program.

“I think they have a phenomenal program,” he said. “Their defense is phenomenal. They have an amazing D-line.”

Morris visited FSU on Friday and was planning to be at Miami on Monday. Besides those schools and Clemson, he has been hearing from Alabama and Michigan.

Clemson hasn’t yet offered, and while Morris is still firm in his pledge to the Seminoles right now, he admitted that an offer from the Tigers would impact his recruitment.

“It would definitely affect my (recruitment) and make things harder,” he said.

Morris plays both tight end and defensive end for American Heritage and is being recruited on either side of the ball by various schools. He is a consensus top-250 overall prospect in the 2019 class.
