Tigers extend offer to NFL legacy

Clemson has offered Southlake (Texas) Carroll cornerback R.J. Mickens, the son of former Texas A&M and NFL defensive back Ray Mickens.

Mickens, a Class of 2020 prospect, announced the news via social media Thursday night.

“Extremely blessed and honored to receive an offer from THE Clemson University,” Mickens wrote in a Twitter post.

Just a sophomore, Mickens is already a national recruit. He has close to two dozen scholarship offers featuring Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas A&M, UCLA and others.

Mickens is an all-state and all-district performer in the Texas 5-6A classification.

As a sophomore last season, Mickens totaled 99 tackles, 13 pass deflections, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and four caused fumbles. He also had 298 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on offense.

Clemson also offered Mickens’ teammate T.J. McDaniel, a 2019 athlete, on Thursday.
