Mammoth OT talks Clemson interest, upcoming visit

Four-star Xavier Truss has seen his recruitment take off fast following an impressive showing at the U.S. Army National Combine in San Antonio last month. The Warwick (R.I.) Bishop Hendricken standout has quickly become one of the most coveted offensive tackles in the 2019 class.

Alabama was the latest to offer Truss last week, joining the 22 other programs that have offered him this calendar year. In the past seven weeks, Truss has received scholarship offers from schools such as Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.

Clemson is among others showing interest in Truss, who said he began hearing from Clemson’s Brent Venables about a month ago.

“He just asked me if I was interested in Clemson at all,” Truss told The Clemson Insider.

Truss – who stands at a whopping 6-foot-7, 325 pounds — is very interested.

“They are probably one of my favorite schools,” he said, “so an offer from them would be incredible. I love everything from the incredible academics to the athletic side.”

Truss could travel to Clemson’s campus for an unofficial visit as soon as this week. Right now, he is planning to check out Clemson on Wednesday.

“I should be visiting (this) week, I believe the 21st,” Truss said. “I would probably take an official if they were to offer.”

Truss feels he is being recruited the hardest right now by Ohio State or Penn State and perhaps Alabama. He hopes to commit by the start of his senior season.

What is Truss looking for in a college?

“I’m just looking for a place that feels like home,” he said.

Truss is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1 prospect in Rhode Island, No. 10 offensive tackle and No. 63 overall prospect for the class of 2019.
