Clemson moves into Top 2 for talented cornerback

One of Clemson’s scholarship offers this past week went out to Rocky Mount (N.C.) 2019 cornerback Shyheim Battle.

Battle (6-2, 175) learned of the offer from newly hired Clemson 10th assistant coach Lemanski Hall.

“Clemson called my coach (Wednesday) morning, and my coach told me he wanted me to call him,” Battle told TCI. “So I called him at 12 (Wednesday), and we spoke over the phone.”

Clemson made a move to the top of Battle’s list with the offer and is now one of the co-leaders at this point in his recruitment.

“My top two with NC State,” Battle said when asked where the Tigers stand.

A couple of things, including the $55 million football operations complex, stand out to Battle about Clemson.

“The new facility for the football team is amazing,” he said. “The program is one of the best in the country.”

Battle is looking to make a lot of visits moving forward, including a trip to Clemson in the near future. He has been to Clemson once before to compete at the Dabo Swinney Camp when he was a ninth grader.

“Duke next weekend and visiting Clemson in the spring,” Battle said. “Going to visit Ohio State this spring, Tennessee, Virginia, Wake Forest, North Carolina, South Carolina And NC State this Sunday.”

In addition to his afoementioned top two, Battle has picked up Power Five offers from Duke, Boston College, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Wake Forest.

Battle plans to make his decision soon after his senior season before enrolling early at his school of choice.

“When making my decision I’ll be making sure I’ll be getting a good education, make sure I’m a good fit for the program, make sure I’ll have the opportunity to get playing time early, and somewhere I also feel at home at,” Battle said.

As a junior, Battle recorded three pass breakups and 31 tackles. Offensively, he was on the receiving end of four touchdown passes.

Battle played with the USA Football Under-17 team in January.
