Five former Clemson players will have an opportunity to impress pro scouts this week as the NFL Scouting Combine begins from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Wide receivers Deon Cain and Ray-Ray McCloud, along with linebacker Dorian O’Daniel, safety Van Smith and offensive guard Taylor Hearn were invited to the six-day event, which begins today with check-in, interviews and measurements.
The on-field skills and drills begin on Friday when Hearn and the rest of the offensive linemen invited to the combine get the opportunity to show what they can do in front of the pro scouts. Cain and McCloud will work out on Saturday, while O’Daniel will be in workouts on Sunday. Smith will work out with the rest of the defensive backs on Monday.
Though all five Clemson players are expected to make an impression on NFL scouts this week, Cain seems to be the one everyone is paying attention to.
Throughout his career, Cain has shown the explosiveness to be a big-play threat every time he touches the ball. Even this past season as an every day starter, he still averaged 12.7 yards per catch and all six of touchdowns were 22 yards or longer. He also had four other scoring plays that gained 20 yards or more.
“He has been inconsistent during his career at Clemson, but the big-play ability is evident. It is there and teams are very interested in his abilities,” NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah said in the tweet below.
Looking forward to seeing Deon and the boys show their skills at the #NFLcombine…#ALLIN 🐅🐾

Jeremiah says Cain is one of the top prospects heading into the scouting combine.
“Deon Cain is one of the most explosive wide receivers in college football and maybe you can make the case that he is the fast wide receiver in college football,” he said.
Cain is said to run a legit 4.3 in the 40-yard dash and Jeremiah says he is looking forward to watching the former Clemson wideout run at the combine.
