Four-star (Scout, Rivals, ESPN, 247) wing Tevin Mack spent this past weekend as an official visitor in Clemson.
The 6-7, 200-pound prospect from Dreher High School (Columbia) caught up with TheClemsonInsider on Sunday night, to talk about his third official what’s next on the travel itinerary.
“I had a nice time. I’d been there before, so I pretty much had a feel for the players,” Mack said, “But this weekend I got a chance to see what the players — how it’s like for them on campus, so I kind of got a feel for that I enjoyed it.
“It was great.”
Mack was hosted by his friend, sophomore wing Austin Ajukwa, who’s also from Columbia.
“Most of the time I was with Austin,” Mack said. “It was me, Austin, Donte Grantham, Gabe DeVoe, Jaron Blossomgame, Landry Nnoko, Patrick Rooks — that’s really who I was with most of the weekend.”
The Clemson players “weren’t really persuading” him to join them in Clemson.
“They were telling me that I should just make the best choice for me,” Mack said. “Clemson was just the best choice for them.”
The Clemson coaches reminded Mack that he would be playing in one of the nation’s best conferences if he signed up to be a Tiger.
“They were telling me about the power of playing in the ACC,” Mack said. “They were telling me it’s the best conference in basketball…(and) just showing me how they developed K.J. (McDaniels) into what he is now. They were telling me if I work hard, I could do that one day, possibly.”
Next weekend, Mack will visit UConn. Official No. 5 will be to South Carolina a week later. His first two officials were to Georgia and VCU.
Mack hasn’t set a specific date for an announcement, but he does have a general idea when the decision will be made.
“Honestly, if I feel like I’m ready to make a choice, I’ll make a choice,” he said. “I’m definitely going to do it before the (November) signing day. When I get that feeling where I feel I want to go, I’ll just make it then.”
