Game Day Blog: Syracuse at Clemson

10:27 p.m.

Clemson wins 16-6 as the defense held Syracuse to 170 yards and did not allow a touchdown, while running back Wayne Gallman rushed for 101 yards. The Tigers are 6-2 and 5-1 in the ACC.

10:11 p.m.

Reid Webster is playing center now that Norton comes out with an injury. Crowder is playing right guard.

10:07 p.m.

Murphy misses his second kick of the year. Clemson takes over at the 24.

9:57 p.m.

That is four sacks by the Clemson defense tonight. Cuse had given up five all season prior to tonight’s game.

9:51 p.m.

Stoudt throws his second touchdown pass of the season and gives Clemson a 16-6 lead with 14:28 to play in the game. The drive was 7 plays for 73 yards and took 2:14.  The Touchdown pass was 19 yards. That end the no offensive touchdown streak in Death Valley at 8.

9:47 p.m.

Clemson has now gone eight quarters without an offensive touchdown in Death Valley. That dates back to the NC State game.

9:45 p.m.

That was the first completed pass over the middle tonight for Clemson. It went 17 yards. The Tigers lead 9-6 as they head to the fourth quarter.

9:38 p.m.

Lakip kicks a 41-yard field goal to to give Clemson its first lead of the night, 9-6, with 3:30 to play. Lakip has made 13 of 14 field goal attempts here in Death Valley.

9:34 p.m.

Jenkins was hurt on that previous play. Clemson is going to get the ball back.

9:28 p.m.

Clemson gets an 18-yard yard field goal to tie the game 6-6 with 6:36 to play in the third quarter. This is ugly football, but I love it. The drive was 12 plays, 49-yards and took 3:56 off the clock.

9:23 p.m.

Gore is the right tackle and Webster is because Davis lost his helmet on that last play. He has to sit out

9:21 p.m.

They ran the ball to Reader’s side and nothing happened.

9:19 p.m.

The Tigers were bringing Reader on the field before the injury timeout. Yes, injury????

9:14 p.m.

Where did Anthony come from on that play?

9:13 p.m.

That pass awful. That is Clemson’s fourth turnover of the game. They had six all season coming in.

9:07 p.m.

Clemson has not scored an offensive touchdown in Death Valley since the NC State game. That is seven quarters.

9:06 p.m.

It might be time to for the defense to make a touchdown to help the offense out.

9:05 p.m.

Norton snaps the ball over Stoudt’s head.

9:02 p.m.

Replay has changed the call. Clemson’s ball.

9;01 p.m.

That looked like a fumble to me.

8:37 p.m.

This is the first time Clemson has trailed at the break all year. Clemson has 157 total yards to Cuse’s 119. But three Clemson turnovers has allowed Syracuse to take a 6-3 lead going into the break.

8:33 p.m.

Murphy makes a 50-yard field goal to end the half. The Orange lead Clemson 6-3 at the break. The scoring drive was 4 plays, minus 7 yards and was 1:04 p.m.

8:30 p.m.

The ball was taken from Stoudt. Syracuse has the ball at the Clemson 25 with 1:12 p.m. That is three turnovers for the Clemson offense.

8:23 p.m.

Davidson was not watching the ball and dropped it. That was a golden opportunity that they dropped. Literally. Cuse has the ball back. 3-3 second quarter.

8:20 p.m.

The crowd tonight was announced at 80,031.

8:19 p.m.

The play stands, Clemson has the ball at Cuse 33.

8:18 p.m.

Clemson gets an interception by Robert Smith that is under review.

8:15 p.m.

Martin Jenkins is back for the first time since the FSU game.

8:13 p.m.

Lakip hits a 38-yard field goal to tie the game with 4:37 to play in the second quarter. The scoring drive was  12-plays, 69 yards and took 4:37 off the clock.

8:07 p.m.

Clemson has a tempo going right now. Stoudt is snapping the ball at 29, 28 and 27 seconds on the play clock right now. Cuse calls another timeout.

8:05 p.m.

Hickey has a lower body injury and is being evaluated.

8:04 p.m.

Crowder is in at right guard.

7:57 p.m.

Sean Hickey, Cuse’s best OL is injured.

7:54 p.m.

Clemson’s offense moved the ball a little bit but a sack and then more pressure from the Cuse defense forces a punt. Cuse ball at its own 20.

7:48 p.m.

Stoudt snapped that ball with 27 seconds left on the play clock. Cuse got the timeout first, though.

7:45 p.m

That was just the second time this year the Tigers did not score in the first quarter. The other was at Florida State.

7:42 p.m.

That is the end of the first quarter and the Cuse leads 3-0. Clemson had 29 total yards and Syracuse had 77 yards.

7:40 p.m.

Syracuse strikes first with a 43-yard field goal. That was a 13-play, 63 yard drive that took 5:00. The Cuse was 1 for 3 on third downs on that drive and a fourth down conversion.

7:36 p.m.

Clemson has 2 sacks already. Cuse came into the game giving up only five total sacks which ranked fourth in the nation.

7:30 p.m.

Stoudt took a hit as he was released and Cuse gets the interception. I thought that was the right call.

7:26 p.m.

Checkout Hale’s recruiting notes from the sidelines. Go here.

7:20 p.m.

Clemson and Cuse are just playing field position right now. Clemson has the ball at its 19. Second possession.

7:14 p.m.

Left tackle Isaiah Battle did not start the game for discipline reasons. His status for the game is still up in the air we are told. Eric Mac Lain started at right tackle. Davis is at left tackle.

7:11 p.m.

That is eight straight games Clemson has opened up with a three-and-out on defense. The Orange had minus-yard.

7:09 p.m.

Josh Watson starts at defensive tackle tonight.

7:06 p.m.

Clemson won the toss and deferred it to the second half. Syracuse will receive.

7:02 p.m.

DeShawn Williams, Tony Steward, Corbin Jenkins and Daniel Rodriguez are Clemson’s captains.

6:56 p.m.

Also, I just met Nancy O’Dell down on the field and let me say, she left me speech less. She is gorgeous.

6:50 p.m.

A couple of observations from the field. First off, Syracuse players are still talking trash. You think they might have learned there lesson last year. I saw several players smack talking to the Clemson players during and after pregame warmups.

Secondly, the Cuse players are very small compared to the Clemson players. I mean like Clemson was to Alabama in 2008.

5:53 p.m.

Syracuse is wearing all white today with a white helmet with an Orange “S”. I guess we can call them the White today instead of the Orange. This is two years Clemson has played Syracuse and they have not worn any orange. They wore all blue last year against Clemson.

4:17 p.m.

According the

The Orange could be getting three starters back for today’s game. Link
