
Clemson, SC – Clemson defeated North Carolina 5-2 Friday night thanks to a another strong performance from Matthew Crownover and an early 5-0 lead.
Matthew Crownover went 7.0 innings and only gave up seven hits, two runs and no earned runs. Crownover had eight strikeouts and only two walks on 118 pitches. Taylor Vetzel finished the game off for the Tigers going 2.0 innings and giving up no hits and no runs.
Chris Okey and Eli White both went 2-4 on the night.
The Tigers took the lead in the first inning. With two outs Tyler Krieger reached on a slow roller to third. Reed Rohlman doubled to left center on a ball just missed by the outfielder to score Krieger. Chris Okey doubled to score Rohlman and put Clemson up 2-0 after one.
Clemson plated three more runs in the third. Steven Duggar singled and then advanced to second on a balk. Tyler Krieger walked before Rohlman reached on an error by the center fielder allowing Duggar to score. Chase Pinder doubled down the line to score Krieger and Rohlman and the Tiger’s lead climbed to 5-0.
North Carolina got on the board with two runs in the top of the seventh.
The Tigers moved to 15-14 overall and 6-7 in the ACC with the victory. North Carolina is also 6-7 in the ACC with the loss. The ACC showdown continues Saturday at 6:30 PM.
