Thomas Jones Jr. is starting to blow up now that his junior film is making its way to the desks of college recruiters.
Earlier this year, South Carolina and Wake Forest both had the junior safety from Laurens on campus for their respective junior days. He visited Clemson on Saturday, marking his first trip back to Tigertown since the S.C. State game.
TheClemsonInsider spoke with the 6-foot-2, 190-pound prospect on Sunday afternoon.
“I really enjoyed it. I liked it,” he said.
Plenty stood out to Jones, who’s rated by 247 as a three-star safety and ranked as the No. 15 prospect in the state for the 2016 class.
“I never even saw the dorm rooms and stuff the players live in. That was my first time touring around the campus, but I just like how the athletes live,” Jones said. “We got to see Deshaun Watson’s…it was incredible. The living conditions for the players, that’s what stood out to me the most.”
He added, “I just like how, with the class, they have tutoring. That’s one thing my family is big on, education. I know that stood out to my mom and me a lot. Even if you’re doing well, you still have to go get help, to stay above. They want you to be that top student in the classroom.”
While visitign for the Orange and White game, Jones spoke with defensive coordinator Brent Venables, defensive backs coach Mike Reed and defensive tackles coach Dan Brooks, his area recruiter.
“Coach Venables, he was just telling me that they really liked my film. He was telling me that they have a lot of DBs in right now,” Jones said. “But they were just saying that Jayron Kearse and a lot of other people might be leaving early, so (Venables) was saying…once they get the green light to come at me, they’re coming.”
South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Duke, East Carolina, Charlotte and Miami-Ohio have offered.
As a junior, Jones had four interceptions.
