Signing Day commitments

Over the last few years, Signing Day has yielded commitments to Clemson’s following class.

The 2016 class picked up three commitments on Signing Day in 2015: Cornell Powell, Jamie Skalski and Tavien Feaster. All three are faxing letters of intent to Clemson on Wednesday morning.

Feaster is rated as a five-star and ranked by 247 as the No. 1 all-purpose running back in the country. The U.S. Army All-American from Spartanburg High School briefly entertained Tennessee last July, but nothing transpired beyond his one visit to Knoxville.

In August, Powell announced that he would take official visits to Georgia, Oklahoma and Ohio State. After a story with TheClemsonInsider, Powell’s plans were nixed. For Powell, a four-star from Greenville, N.C., focus shifted back to Clemson and trying to convince four-star wide receiver Diondre Overton to join him in the Tigers’ class.

Skalski (Newnan, Ga.) committed and didn’t budge. Rated as a three-star linebacker fromĀ  also had offers from Ole Miss, UNC, South Carolina, UCF and Wake Forest. Before he committed to Clemson, South Carolina was receiving close consideration.

The previous two Signing Day commitments have already yielded big-time results on the field.

Mitch Hyatt pulled the trigger in 2014, during a ceremony at North Gwinnett High School. His freshman season at Clemson was a successful one. The former five-star recruit started every game at left tackle and protected the blind-side of the Tigers’ Heisman Trophy finalist.

Deshaun Watson committed in 2013 after the finishing touches were put on that class. After a summer visit to Auburn and some quick flirting with Ohio State, Watson put an end to any potential movement away from Clemson. Two years into his career as a Tiger and he’s already in the conversation as the best quarterback in program history.

D.J. Greenlee was the first Signing Day commitment in recent Clemson recruiting history. Now a tight end, Greenlee committed out of Daniel High School as a linebacker in 2012.

Though Jay Guillermo didn’t commit on Signing Day in 2011, he was offered by former Clemson offensive line coach Brad Scott, who played a big part in the 2011 haul. Five days after Sammy Watkins & Co. signed with Clemson, Guillermo became the first 2012 commitment.

Today is usually a good day. Not just for the present, but the future, too.
