CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The criteria are in place for four-star wide receiver OrTre Smith.
“Where I feel comfortable at, and a home atmosphere, just where I can perform at my best,” Smith told TheClemsonInsider during The Opening on Sunday.
For now, the ESPN300 prospect from Mount Pleasant’s Wando High School is trying to figure out the final few schools that will receive consideration.
“A decision will be, probably, mid-senior season,” Smith said. “A top-five or top-six will be at the end of spring or at the end of the school year.”
In addition to his stop in Clemson for January’s Junior Day, South Carolina, Georgia, UNC, Wake Forest and NC State have already received visits from him this spring.
Clemson, South Carolina, Georgia, UNC and, maybe, Wake Forest are likely to host him again later this spring/summer. Oklahoma and Ole Miss have been mentioned as potential destinations.
Clemson co-offensive coordinator/running backs coach Tony Elliott continues to serve as the primary recruiter in the Charleston area. However, fellow coordinator/wide receivers coach Jeff Scott recently turned up the heat.
“Coach Scott started picking up my recruitment a little better, yeah, a little better — more, I guess. And I still talk to coach Elliott,” Smith said.
Scott stopped by Wando on Monday, to kick off the spring evaluation period.
“It’s just like, he’s coming to see me and we’re thinking about you, sending me pictures and things like that,” Smith said.
