CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Westlake-Atlanta four-star cornerback A.J. Terrell scored an invite to The Opening on Sunday.
Minutes after he landed the golden ticket to Oregon, Terrell listed five schools in his lead group.
“Really, no order, just Florida, Georgia, Auburn, South Carolina and Clemson,” he said.
Clemson occupies a spot, even though the Tigers’ staff hasn’t had on campus for a visit.
“Really, just coach Mike Reed getting to talk to me. He came to (see) me before, but he wasn’t really hard on me. Now, he is again, and Clemson is one of my top contenders, too,” he said.
Terrell added, “I’m trying to get up there ASAP.”
With Mackensie Alexander, T.J. Green and Jayron Kearse off the NFL in 2016 and Cordrea Tankersley on the way in 2017, Terrell sees an opportunity to compete for playing time.
His buddy, four-star cornerback LeAnthony Williams Jr., has already nailed down his spot in the Tigers’ 2017 signing class.
“We train a lot, we’ve both got a good connection, but he doesn’t really (recruit) me coming to Clemson and all that stuff,” Terrell said. “He’s just letting me enjoy my recruiting.”
As a junior, he had 53 tackles and two interceptions, to go along with 18 catches for 273 yards and five touchdowns. Terrell also returned a kickoff fumble recovery and interception for a touchdown.
