Former Clemson standout Tyler Krieger got some good news on Sunday as he was moved up from Low A Baseball. It didn’t take long for Krieger to make the first move on what he hopes is a path to the Major Leagues.
“They told me yesterday I was moving up to Lynchburg (Virginia). I am excited about the opportunity,” Krieger told The Clemson Insider.
The first year of professional baseball has been a good one so far for the former Tiger.
“It has been a fun year. I have been playing at Lake County in Low A. It has been fun getting to know everyone,” he said. “The coaching staff was unbelievable. They put in a lot of time to help me. I learned a lot.”
Krieger credited his former coaches for some of his success at the next level.
“Coach (Jack) Leggett and Coach (Bradley) LeCroy taught me the right things about the infield. That was awesome. They really did prepare me,” he said.
What is the biggest difference in the minor leagues and Clemson?
“You learn a lot about the game. The coaches are unbelievable and have helped me with my defensive play. They have taught me more about things like how to approach the ball, how to read the hops. The biggest think is my arm got healthy,” Krieger said.
Krieger couldn’t have been more excited to see the Tigers have such a good season this past year.
“It was awesome. I follow all the guys and keep in touch as much as I can,” he said. “Clemson will always be a special place in my heart. Coach (Monte) Lee did a great job this year. I was so happy to see them win the ACC Tournament. They have a good foundation in place that should help in the future.”
Like everyone else Krieger really enjoyed watching Seth Beer this season as well.
“How about that. He is pretty good, huh? He looks like he has it working pretty good already,” Krieger said.
Life in the minor leagues is much different than Clemson, but the former Tiger is embracing what he hopes is a road to the majors.
“It is a lot of road trips, but it is kind of fun,” Krieger said. “It is all part of the journey. We get to spend time with the guys. The travel gets tough sometimes, but you have to embrace it and have fun with it.”
