CLEMSON – The Clemson Tigers came to play last Saturday night against FAU and came out on top with a 48-14 victory over the Owls at Memorial Stadium. The Tigers head back into ACC play as they will face No. 4 Florida State on Saturday at Death Valley.
R.J. Mickens sat down with the media this week to share his thoughts on the upcoming game against the Seminoles and more.
–The senior safety is aware of the challenges Clemson’s defense will face come Saturday against FSU. “It’s a great challenge for us as a secondary in general and as a defense as a whole… They have great playmakers at all of those positions and a quarterback that really makes you stay on top of your game. It’s going to be a great challenge.”
–When asked what he remembers from the matchup against FSU quarterback Jordan Travis in Clemson’s 34-28 win last year, Mickens said, “He was a really great competitor, and he just didn’t give up. Even though we were up by 20 points or so, he just kept fighting… That shows a lot about their program and what they are made of.”
–Mickens continues to praise Clemson’s freshman class and what they bring to the table for the program. “I think I might have said something during camp that KB [safety Khalil Barnes] was going to be special… He just proved that this past weekend… Even that whole [freshman] class, those guys just care a lot… Those guys just came in ready and hungry… Just their knowledge, love and passion for the game has been amazing to watch.”
–The Seminoles being ranked fourth in the country as they come to Death Valley does not change how the Tigers are preparing for the matchup, according to Mickens. “We always expect to win, no matter who it is. We play to a standard and not to an opponent… We are preparing to play Clemson football for all four quarters or however long it takes… This is going to be a great opportunity for us.”
Saturday’s game is set to kick off at noon and will be televised on ABC.
