Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney is excited about the Tigers’ receiving corps and the personnel they have at that position right now, as well as the talent coming in next year.
During his weekly Sunday evening Zoom conference call with the media, Swinney spoke highly about Clemson’s receiver room and the future outlook of it with players like junior Beaux Collins, sophomores Antonio Williams and Adam Randall, redshirt sophomore Troy Stellato, redshirt freshman Cole Turner and true freshman Tyler Brown.
“It’s exciting to see what’s going on at receiver with Beaux and Antonio, and obviously he hasn’t even been out there,” Swinney said of Williams, who has missed Clemson’s last two games with an ankle injury. “Now 6 (Brown) is coming in here, and Stellato, what he’s doing. Man, we’re super excited about the potential of Adam. He’s still got to turn the potential into performance, but we know what he can do eventually. And then Cole Turner, we think’s going to be a star. He’s obviously going to be on the shelf again this year (with a season-ending injury), so that’s disappointing.
“But we’ve got a good group coming together, a couple great recruits coming in, and really excited about where we are with that room.”
The aforementioned receiver recruits slated to come in as part of Clemson’s 2024 class are Midlothian (Texas) five-star Bryant Wesco and Tampa (Fla.) Catholic four-star TJ Moore. Wesco is the No. 9 overall prospect in the country for the 2024 class and the No. 3 receiver, per 247Sports, while Moore is the No. 15 receiver and No. 80 overall prospect in the class.
As for the current true freshmen receivers on the Tigers’ roster, they signed four in their 2023 class – Brown, Ronan Hanafin, Noble Johnson and Misun “Tink” Kelley.
Brown has burst onto the scene as Clemson’s leading receiver through five games with 21 catches for 316 yards and two touchdowns. As for Hanafin, Swinney said the Tigers hope to get him some opportunities on offense as the season progresses after removing his redshirt in the wake of Turner’s season-ending injury, while Clemson wants to redshirt both Johnson and Kelley.
“That room, there’s a lot to be encouraged about, what we’ve got on the team right now,” Swinney said. “We’re playing Ronan, and hopefully as the year goes, you’ll see him get a little opportunity as well. And then we’re trying to hold Noble, who physically is super, super gifted. But he’s one that just needed to mature a little bit from just a football standpoint in transitioning from the meeting room to the game field and all that we need him to do. So, we’re able to hopefully be able to redshirt him this year.”
