Former Clemson Tiger stars lead primetime victory

The Jacksonville Jaguars moved to 5-2, and this win came with some late heroics from a former Clemson Tiger. While his team has continued to win, quarterback Trevor Lawrence hadn’t delivered a signature performance.

Coming into primetime in the Superdome against the New Orleans Saints, one of the most hostile place to play, Lawrence looked like the quarterback we saw in 2022. The former Clemson national champion finished the game 20-29 for 204 yards and a touchdown.

On top of his success through the air, he added 59 rushing yards as Jacksonville’s leading rusher. That managed to top fellow Clemson great Travis Etienne Jr.’s total, but the speedster added two scores on the night.

It was a back-and-forth matchup on the road, and the Jaguars found themselves tied with 3:45 to play after their defense got Lawrence the ball back. After a short pass to Etienne to open the drive, Lawrence and wide receiver Christian Kirk connected on a pass that would turn out to be the game-winner.

Lawrence found Kirk for a 44-yard touchdown, and it sealed the game for Jacksonville. Road wins are never easy, and silencing the New Orleans crowd is no simple feat, yet Lawrence and the Jaguars did just that.

With 21 points credited to Lawrence and Etienne, former Clemson stars are leading the way for one of the AFC’s best with the midpoint of the NFL season approaching.
