Terrell says Big Brother Plays Big Role in His Success

CLEMSON — Clemson cornerback Avieon Terrell met with the media earlier this week following Clemson’s bye week.

Terrell spoke about being one of four true freshmen that has played in every game this season, his family lineage within the Clemson football program, and his versatility at the cornerback position.

–Terrell is the younger brother of former Clemson cornerback A.J. Terrell, who is now an all-pro corner for the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. He touched on his brother’s influence on his development as a player, “He tells me to stay focused, be humble, stay in the playbook — your time will come.”

-Still in the midst of his first season at Clemson, the younger Terrell talked about his confidence playing football at the college level, and the moment he knew he was built to play at the collegiate level. “I knew from the first practice. I knew I could handle it, the game just got faster.”

-During camp, Terrell was asking questions to Andrew Mukuba about the nickel position. The cornerback wanted to be adequately prepared if his number was called to help at nickel. “I knew that Coach (Mike Reed) was going to ask me about nickel one day, so I made sure to know it. So, when the day comes and he tells me to go there, I know exactly what I have to do. Every time I look at corner in the playbook, I look at nickel, just in case he calls me out there, so I know what I’m doing.”

Clemson will visit Miami Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. The game will be televised on the ACCN.
