CLEMSON – The Clemson Tigers welcomed wide receiver Antonio Williams back to the lineup in the loss to Miami. After making the start, Williams came out of the game limping in the second quarter and didn’t return.
During postgame, head coach Dabo Swinney said it was “something to do with his toe” but didn’t know the severity of the issue moving forward. Swinney gave confirmation on Williams’ status Sunday, and he’ll be out of the lineup again for at least the N.C. State game.
“Anonio is probably going to be out. Ipretty much know that on him right now. Not his ankle, ankle’s fine. But it looks like he’s got kind of a toe issue. So he’s probably going to be out for a little while,” Swinney said. “It’s just disappointing, you know, made a couple huge plays for us and that was disappointing. So you know, you got two starters out right there. Cole [Turner] and Antonio and Tony has played maybe four games. He’s missed several games, going to miss a few more. Obviously, Walker Parks being out as well, but I hate that for him. Again, did some good things in the game and it’s good to get him back out there, but kind of got tackled funny and and hurt his toe. So hopefully he’ll be back. But we’ll just have to see how he how he progresses these next couple of weeks.”
Williams was dealing with an ankle issue that kept him out of three games, and it may be the same after his latest mishap.
Based on Swinney’s comments, Williams’ injury is significant and the Tigers will be taking their time with his recovery process. He didn’t elaborate on what exactly the toe injury was but regardless, it’s up to the rest of the wide receiver room now. With two starters in Williams and Cole Turner out, it’s a very shorthanded group.
Several other Clemson players were “banged up” after the game, but Swinney says Williams is the only player he can confirm will be out for the trip to play the Wolfpack.
