Former Tiger Doesn’t Hold Back While Discussing Clemson

As an analyst for the ACC Network, Eric Mac Lain calls it like he sees it, and the former Clemson standout offensive lineman was brutally honest while weighing in on the Tigers’ performance against Miami on Saturday night.

At halftime of Clemson’s eventual 28-20, double-overtime loss at Hard Rock Stadium, Mac Lain didn’t hold back when discussing the Tigers’ sloppy play on the offensive side of the ball.

Clemson (4-3, 2-3 ACC) committed three more turnovers in Saturday’s game, losing two fumbles and throwing an interception. Of course, one of those turnovers turned out to be a 14-point swing in Miami’s favor in the first quarter, as Clemson running back Will Shipley fumbled at the 1-yard line, just prior to crossing the plane of the end zone for a touchdown, and Miami recovered the loose ball in the end zone before scoring on the ensuing offensive snap.

After the two lost fumbles on Saturday, the Tigers are now dead last in the FBS (out of 133 teams) in lost fumbles this season with 10 of those through seven games.

Here’s what Mac Lain had to say during the halftime report of Saturday’s game on ACC Network regarding Clemson’s turnover woes and his assessment of the Tigers’ offense:

“It’s what they do at this point (turn the ball over). This is who Clemson is this season, and it’s a weird lack of attention to detail. It’s a very weird thing that I’ve never seen since I’ve been in that program and now since we’ve been covering it, and it’s plagued them horrendously. I mean, that’s the reason that you see Clemson, number one, in games that they probably shouldn’t be, should be blowing teams out like we saw a week ago or two weeks ago.

“And then now in this game, just absolutely struggling. Offensive line getting bullied, decision-making very poor from quarterback and some things that they’re doing running the football, and then just (fumbling the ball) going into the end zone. They lead the world – not just the ACC, the world – in lost fumbles with 10. It’s just this team’s MO unfortunately.”
