Collins: Clemson Yet to ‘Put It All Together’

CLEMSON – There’s five games left in Clemson’s regular season slate, and the Tigers have yet to play a complete game. It’s a cause for frustration because the lid hasn’t come off so this team can truly prove themselves.

Especially on the offensive side, Clemson has strung together multiple strong drives in a row but it stalls out somewhere. Against the inferior FAU and Charleston Southern, it was slow starts while you can pick at least a quarter of every ACC game and the Tigers struggled.

Junior wide receiver Beaux Collins says the red zone issues are one of the things that linger in this offense’s mind. He feels like Clemson does a “good job preparing during the week” but the execution hasn’t always followed through on Saturdays.

Putting together that red zone success is just one of the many puzzle pieces the Tigers need to combine to feel truly satisfied with a performance. It’s something Collins and this team are yearning for with less than half of the season left.

“We definitely need one game all together as a collective team. Just put it all together and display what we know we are capable of,” Collins said. “It’s been a pretty long season so far, trying to get everybody to play together, have all 11 guys on the same page but once we have that one game, I feel like it will be special.”

Preparation doesn’t seem to be an issue according to Collins’ synopsis. Execution continues to be at the forefront and he’s disappointed in the mistakes that continue to show up.

“It’s definitely a little disappointing to see some of the critical mistakes that we have as a unit on offense. Just guys not carrying over, doing the routine things and it’s definitely frustrating to see there’s a slight disconnection from what we are capable of doing in practice and on game days. Just guys making simple mistakes we know we can correct,” Collins said.

Collins emphasized that “the details matter” and it holds true given the untimely and unforced turnovers. While it may be for naught, Clemson must prove to itself that a full performance is possible and it starts with Garrett Riley’s offense producing without mistakes.
