CLEMSON – Clemson’s Beaux Collins spoke to the media earlier this week about the Tigers’ loss to Miami in double overtime last Saturday and how they have dealt with the adversity they have encountered this season.
–Collins started off the press conference with admitting the frustration the Tigers have felt with not being able to finish games, especially being up by 10 points with less than nine minutes left in the game against Miami and then eventually losing in double overtime. “It’s definitely frustrating, seeing the slight disconnect between practice and during games.”
–Despite the heartbreaking loss, Collins had some bright moments in the game on Saturday, having two catches for 29 yards, including a 28-yard catch on Clemson’s first possession of the second half.
–With the Tigers not being as successful this season compared to years past, Collins and the rest of the team have had to take the negatives from each game and use them as lessons going forward. When asked what takeaways they have gained from the game against Miami and their season as a whole, two points that he emphasized are the details matter and turnovers are a huge part of the game. “A lot of people don’t understand that being negative in the (turnover) margin sets you up to fight late in the game when you don’t have to. We are learning a lot about the small details.”
–In order for the Tigers to find the silver lining and finish the remainder of the season on a positive note, Collins said that the Tigers need to find their “sweet spot” between practices and games and hold their heads up high. “We just need to go out there and have fun, as long as we stay together, we will finish up the way we want to.”
–The last time the Tigers traveled to NC State to play in Carter-Finley Stadium back in 2021, they left with a sour taste in their mouths after losing 27-21 in double overtime. Collins, who was a freshman at the time, remembers feeling defeated leaving Raleigh, and hopes they will not have to experience the same feeling this time around. “We definitely have to get them back. It was a tough loss. Going up there this time, if we have the right edge, we will come out on top for sure.”
