Clemson Likely Without Several Starters on Saturday

CLEMSON — Clemson’s offense will likely be without several starters when it takes on No. 12 Notre Dame Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

The Clemson Insider has confirmed left guard Marcus Tate will not play against the Irish after injuring his knee in practice this week. The Tigers could also be without left tackle Collin Sadler and wide receiver Tyler Brown as well.

A source told TCI the Tate knee injury “was bad.” Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney will likely address the extent of Tate’s injury and how long he could miss after the game on Saturday.

TCI learned Sadler was limited in practice this week. The redshirt freshman was banged up on the last drive of last week’s game against NC State and did not return.

Brown was poked in the eye in the NC State game. He did return late and Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said he saw an eye doctor earlier in the week to make sure everything was okay.

“Everything is okay. He is back at it, but they had to check him out and all that stuff,” Swinney said after Wednesday’s practice. “He got poked pretty good.”

TCI was told Brown was limited in practice this week because of his shoulder more than his eye. If you recall, the true freshman injured his right shoulder while making a diving catch against Florida State on Sept. 23. A source said the shoulder has not been 100-percent since.

Swinney also said Wednesday that running back Will Shipley was still day-to-day. The Tigers’ leading rusher is in concussion protocol after taking a shot in the back of the neck near the goal line. He did not return and tests revealed there was no damage to his neck or spine.
