CLEMSON – Clemson linebacker Jeremiah Trotter had himself a day against Notre Dame, as the Tigers beat the 12th-ranked Irish, 31-23, Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
The junior linebacker racked up eight tackles and had two sacks in the win. He also had a pick-six after intercepting a Sam Hartman pass in the second quarter.
Trotter’s 28-yard return gave the Tigers a 24-6 lead in the second quarter.
“That was film study and execution on the pick-six by Trotter. We could have had another with Khalil Barnes,” Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said.
The Tigers’ junior linebacker anchored a defense that shut down Notre Dame in the fourth quarter. Though it had three chances to tie the game late in the fourth quarter the defense forced a punt, grabbed a second interception and then forced a three-and-out to end the game.
Kylon Griffin recorded the second interception.
Clemson held Notre Dame to 41 yards in the fourth quarter and to 329 yards overall.
The Tigers return to Memorial Stadium next Saturday to face ACC rival Georgia Tech.
