Swinney Gives Positive Injury Update on Shipley

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney met with the media Tuesday and gave the latest on Will Shipley’s status.

Swinney said the star running back was able to practice in a green (limited contact) jersey on Monday and is “trending back” ahead of Saturday’s game against Georgia Tech.

“Unless we have some type of setback or something, we do expect him to get back,” Swinney said.

Shipley, the versatile All-ACC performer who’s averaging 4.6 yards per carry this season, missed last week’s game vs. Notre Dame after taking a big hit in the NC State game on Oct. 28. He entered concussion protocol and didn’t make enough progress to play against the Fighting Irish.

“His head and all that’s good, it’s just been more making sure his neck and everything is where it needs to be,” Swinney said on Tuesday.

“But he looked good last night, so we’ll see where he is today. Big day today and tomorrow. He’ll be in pads both days and see how he responds to that.”

Shipley has 515 rushing yards for the season. The junior from North Carolina also has 120 receiving yards and five total touchdowns this season.
