CLEMSON – Saturday Clemson held its annual Military Appreciation game where the Tigers sported a fighter’s look in all purple with attitudes to match.
That attitude was reflected in their performance as the Tigers took down the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 42-21.
Hot off a victory over Notre Dame, many wondered if the Tigers would be able to keep the fire burning against the Yellow Jackets, and Cade Klubnik made sure they stayed hot throughout the day.
Clemson amassed 465 yards, including 265 on the ground.
Klubnik tied his career high of four touchdown passes by completing 23-of-34 passes for 205 yards. His four touchdowns were five yards to Beaux Collins, three yards to Tyler Brown, five yards to Briningstool and 13 yards to Josh Sapp.
“I think we knew kind of coming into it we were going to have to take advantage of Red Zone offense and throwing the ball,” said Klubnik “But we did a great job, I loved our game plan going into it and we just executed more than anything.”
In addition to his arm talent, Klubnik also showcased his running abilities by rushing for 20 yards, including a 17-yard run for the Tigers.
“I thought this might have been his best game running the ball,” said Swinney. “That’s an area we need him to keep growing in and I saw him step forward today and we need him to keep doing that.”
The sophomore quarterback was not only performing physically, but mentally as well.
“I thought he did a good job playing one possession at a time,” said Swinney “He took care of the ball, did a nice job and made good decisions.”
Next Saturday, the Tigers return for their final home game of the season against No. 24 North Carolina at 3:30 pm.
