CLEMSON – Clemson tight end Jake Briningstool spoke with the media earlier this week regarding the Tigers’ win against Georgia Tech last weekend, how the offense has improved in the last two games and how the tight end room will bounce back after a season-ending injury to teammate Sage Ennis.
–When asked what has led to a turnaround on the offense these past few weeks, Briningstool noted that it has been a culmination of several factors. “The biggest thing has been us believing in each other and what we can do. We’ve always known what we can do but bringing that to the field and putting up more points has been really good for us from a confidence standpoint.”
–In last Saturday’s game against Georgia Tech, Briningstool had 27 yards on four receptions, as well as catching a touchdown late in the third quarter. The touchdown, a five-yard dart from Cade Klubnik through a lot of traffic, was not an easy one to make. “I saw the ball come out of his hand, and then I lost it, and then I picked it up right at the end. It was a good throw from him, and we made it work.”
–Briningstool has noticed the confidence build in the entire offense, but especially in quarterback Cade Klubnik. “Every single week, he’s gotten better and better, and it’s been unfolding into the rest of our offense. As he continues to grow and develop, you’ll see our whole team grow and develop and get better.”
–In Saturday’s game, Ennis suffered a tear to his ACL and was told that he will have to undergo surgery, which was a huge loss for the tight end group going into the final two games of the regular season. “Losing Sage is huge. He was really starting to take off. He was a leader for us in the tight end room, taking control of the younger guys and helping me out. Losing him hurts us, but I think we will be fine going forward.”
