NFL Tiger Apologizes After Fan Incident

A former Clemson standout took to social media this week, apologizing for an incident that he was involved in during one of Sunday’s NFL games.

Buffalo Bills defensive end Shaq Lawson was seen on video pushing a fan in the stands at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia during the Bills’ 37-34 overtime loss to the Eagles.

Lawson posted to his private Instagram account this week, explaining what went down and apologizing for his part in the confrontation but adding that “there are certain lines that should not be crossed” when it comes to fan behavior.

“Those of you who know me know that I’m all about the fans, and I have a lot of respect for the game I play and my opponents,” Lawson wrote, via ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg. “Before the game started yesterday, there was a fan behind our bench, who was making life threatening remarks towards us and our families. We asked Philadelphia security to remove the fan, but he was allowed to stay for the entire game. Eventually, our emotions boiled over, and I made a mistake. For that, I apologize, but there are certain lines that should not be crossed.”

On Monday, Bills head coach Sean McDermott commented on the situation, calling it “very unfortunate.”

A first-round pick of the Bills in the 2016 NFL Draft (19th overall), Lawson has recorded 10 tackles (two for loss), a sack and four quarterback hits in 11 games this season.

In his NFL career with the Bills, Miami Dolphins and New York Jets from 2016-23, Lawson has tallied 204 tackles (42 for loss) and 26 sacks.
