Barrett Carter Announces His Decision

Barrett Carter has made his decision.

The star Clemson linebacker took to social media Thursday afternoon and let people know what he’s decided regarding his future.

Carter announced that he will return for his senior year with the Tigers in 2024.

“After careful consideration and a lot of prayer, I’ve decided that I have some unfinished business to attend to,” Carter wrote. “Therefore I will be returning for my senior year at Clemson to finish what I have started. Go Tigers!”

A second-team All-ACC selection this season, the 6-foot-1, 230-pound Carter has played in 11 games for Clemson this year (all starts) and ranks second on the team with 59 total tackles. He’s third on the team with nine tackles for loss and has also posted three sacks, two pass breakups and five quarterback hurries.

A versatile member of the back seven called by Dabo Swinney as “one of the best pure football players I’ve had in 20 years,” Carter entered this season credited by the coaching staff with 103 career tackles (11.5 for loss), 5.5 sacks, nine pass breakups, two forced fumbles, two interceptions and a fumble recovery over 25 games (14 starts) from 2021-22.

Carter earned fourth-team All-America honors from Phil Steele in 2022, when he joined Butkus Award winners Nakobe Dean and Isaiah Simmons among recent Power Five players to post at least 10 tackles for loss, five sacks, multiple interceptions and multiple forced fumbles in a single season.
