Christian Bentancur is officially locked in with Clemson, and the big-time tight end is stoked about his future with the Tigers.
The Clemson Insider recently caught up with Bentancur after he inked with Dabo Swinney’s program on Dec. 20, when college football’s early signing period began.
“Being officially signed feels great with it finally being official that I’m a Clemson Tiger!” Bentancur said.
A consensus top-125 national prospect according to the major recruiting services, Bentancur is the lone tight end signee in Clemson’s 2024 class.
Overall, the Tigers signed 22 players in their 2024 haul that ranks among the top 15 recruiting classes nationally, and it’s a group Bentancur is certainly high on.
“This ‘24 class is special,” he said, “and can’t wait to see the potential of it!”
Bentancur finished his career at Marian Central Catholic (Woodstock, Illinois) with 231 receptions for 3,867 yards and 51 touchdowns. He finished in the top five in Illinois high school history in receiving yards (second), receiving touchdowns (third) and receptions (fifth).
As a senior, the 6-foot-5, 235-pounder recorded 21 receptions in a single game against Wheaton Academy and five touchdowns in one game against Christ The King — the second-best single game figures in each category in Illinois high school history.
Now, as he gets ready for his freshman season at Clemson, Bentancur has a couple of goals in mind.
“My goals are to work the hardest I can and compete for a high spot on the depth chart!” he said.
Bentancur earned conference player of the year as a senior and was a two-year team captain and three-time all-area selection who also earned all-state honors from multiple services as a junior and senior.
What can Tiger fans expect to see from him on the field in the future?
“I don’t know anything for certain or when I’ll be on the field,” he said, “but I will fight and try the absolute hardest I can to get a win!”
Bentancur is slated to enroll at Clemson this coming summer.
“I’m super excited to get to Clemson full time,” he said, “but also excited to enjoy my final semester!”
Bentancur will get the chance to showcase his talents on a national stage this weekend, as he’s set to play in the prestigious All-American Bowl. The 2024 All-American Bowl will kick off at 1 p.m. ET Saturday from the Alamodome in San Antonio and will be nationally televised on NBC.
