Former Clemson QB Finds New College Home

A former Clemson quarterback has found his new college home.

Hunter Helms announced in late November that he was entering the transfer portal, and now he’s headed to Rhode Island. The Rams’ football program announced the signing of Helms on Friday.

An original walk-on turned scholarship recipient, Helms completed 23-of-37 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns to go with four carries for 13 yards in 79 career snaps over nine games at Clemson from 2020-23.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder appeared in four games as a redshirt junior this season, completing 9-of-12 passes for 83 yards and rushing once for 16 yards in 31 snaps.

Helms, a two-time ACC Champion with the Tigers, earned a degree in construction science & management and will be pursuing an MBA at Rhode Island.

“Hunter is a dual-threat quarterback with experience at the highest level in a nationally-prominent FBS program,” Rhode Island offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Patrick Murphy said of Helms. “He brings great size and has a big, extremely accurate arm. His game is also bolstered by his high football IQ and he will offer elite leadership skills to our locker room.”
