Last weekend, Clemson played host to a promising young signal-caller who holds more than a dozen scholarship offers already – and has a high school connection to a current Tiger standout.
Class of 2027 quarterback Trent Seaborn made an unofficial visit to Clemson this past Saturday.
It marked the first trip to Tiger Town for the talented 6-foot-1, 182-pound prospect, who impressively completed 72 percent of his passes with 27 touchdowns and just six interceptions during his 2023 freshman season on varsity in Alabama’s 7A classification.
Seaborn had a great experience at Clemson, including spending time with offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Garrett Riley as well as offensive player development coach/former Tiger quarterback Tajh Boyd.
“I really loved the visit and am so grateful to have had that opportunity to meet with Coach Riley,” Seaborn told The Clemson Insider. “They had their annual team banquet the same day that I had planned to come up, and they still made time to show me all around the campus and through all the facilities, and Coach Riley and Coach Tajh took time to sit down with me and my family and get to know us. That really stood out to me and made me feel like they really valued me and getting to know me.”
Seaborn attends Thompson High School (Alabaster, Ala.) – the same school that produced Clemson freshman All-American defensive lineman and former five-star prospect Peter Woods.
“Peter and I were teammates at Thompson, and we won a state championship his senior year,” Seaborn said. “I’m so lucky to have been able to call him a teammate. He is someone I look up to for how hard he works off the field despite being the most talented player on the field. I’m really bummed I didn’t get to see him on this visit, we were trying to link up but I just missed him as we were leaving. But I know I’ll see him again on my next trip there, or when he comes home to visit.”
Seaborn was accompanied to Clemson by his parents, two younger sisters and little brother.
“They had a lot of fun, especially getting to visit the athletes’ dorm,” Seaborn said. “I think they were ready to move into it, it was pretty nice!”
Riley spoke with Seaborn about returning to campus during spring practice or for the Dabo Swinney Camp, and he certainly hopes to come back for a gameday experience.
“I know their gamedays are insane, and I really hope we can get to a night game,” he said. “Spring practice would be great just to get a feel for how Coach Dabo runs his practices and how Coach Riley works the QBs. Hopefully it’ll be a chance for me and Coach Riley to talk ball and learn more about their process for developing quarterbacks.”
Seaborn’s impressive early offer list includes schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Arkansas, North Carolina, Oregon, Wisconsin, Maryland, Nebraska and Arizona State.
Of course, there’s a lot of time left in the recruiting process for Seaborn, who still has three years of high school ahead of him. But adding an offer from Clemson down the road, he said, “would be such a tremendous honor.”
“But right now I’m only focused on getting to know Coach Riley, build that relationship with him and Coach Dabo,” he added. “I’m not fixated on getting an offer — from Clemson or anywhere really — it’s more important to me to first of all, work hard to become good enough to earn an offer, and secondly, spend time to get to know them, and for them to get to know me.
“And in the course of that, find out if they think I’d be a good fit for them and if I think they’d be a good fit for me. That’s sort of my thought process behind my recruiting experience so far.”
