Good News for Clemson Defensive Lineman

CLEMSON — A Clemson football player received some good news last week.

The Clemson Insider was told by a Clemson Athletic Department spokesperson that charges against defensive tackle DeMonte Capehart have been dismissed. The 6-foot-5, 320-pound defensive tackle was reinstated and allowed to return to all team activities by the athletic department last week.

Capehart will be participating in spring drills on Wednesday.

TCI was also told by a Clemson team spokesperson that there has been no change to the status of wide receiver Noble Johnson after his charge of reckless driving on Feb. 14. He is currently still eligible to participate in all team activities.

A former four-star product, Johnson played in four games in 2023 before redshirting.

After a Feb. 6 traffic arrest on campus, Capehart was charged with “unlawfully having a gun on school property” and “failure to exercise due care while operating a motor vehicle.” According to Clemson, both charges were dismissed after he participated in a PTI (pretrial intervention) program.

Capehart’s reinstatement is huge for Clemson’s defensive front. He will compete this spring and summer to be one of the Tigers’ starters at defensive tackle.

The senior came on down the stretch last season as one of Clemson’s most physical and disruptive interior linemen. Capehart was credited by the coaching staff with nine quarterback pressures, the second-most among the Tigers’ interior linemen, and was credited with 16 tackles (5.0 for loss), a sack, a pass breakup and a forced fumble.

Capehart played in 12 of Clemson’s 13 games in 2023.

A former top-50 national recruit from Hartsville, S.C., Capehart has recorded 32 tackles (9.0 for loss), 2.0 sacks, a pass breakup and a forced fumble during his 34 career games.
