Speedy former Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins ran his highly anticipated 40-yard dash on Friday, the on-field workout day for defensive backs and tight ends at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Wiggins recorded a sub 4.3 — he ran a blazing unofficial time of 4.29 seconds on his first 40-yard dash attempt.
His official time was later announced, and it’s even better at 4.28.
It’s the fastest time among the cornerbacks at the combine. The next best is the 4.33 time posted by Toledo’s Quinyon Mitchell.
The 6-foot-1, 173-pound Wiggins earned first-team All-ACC honors as a junior in 2023, when he tallied 25 tackles (one for loss), a team-high nine pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one sack and two interceptions (one of which he returned 46 yards for his second career touchdown) over 10 games (seven starts).
In his career at Clemson from 2021-23, Wiggins recorded 50 tackles (3.0 for loss), 24 pass breakups, three interceptions (including two returned for touchdowns), two forced fumbles, a sack and a blocked field goal over 34 games (18 starts).
Widely projected to be a first-round pick in April’s draft, Wiggins was ranked as the No. 25 overall prospect in NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah’s updated ranking of the top 50 draft-eligible prospects entering the combine.
Wiggins will find out where he’s headed to play at the next level when the 2024 NFL Draft takes place from April 25-27 in Detroit.
Oh my, Nate Wiggins. 4.29u. Wow.
