Following Wednesday’s scrimmage, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney updated the status of Tyler Brown.
The rising sophomore receiver has been out of spring practice while recovering from foot surgery.
Swinney was asked if he expects Brown to be able to practice after spring break.
“Yeah, I think he’ll be back,” Swinney said. “I’m not sure if they’re going to let him scrimmage. We’ll see where he is.”
Swinney added that Brown, the Tigers’ leading receiver as a true freshman in 2023, is “doing great” as he continues to work his way back.
“He’s running and doing all kind of stuff,” Swinney said. “So, I anticipate he’ll at least get some team work, some indy, some things like that. Whether or not they’ll let him scrimmage or not, I don’t know. That’ll depend on how he responds to the next phase of his return protocol.”
A local product of Greenville (S.C.) High School, Brown made an instant impact for the Tigers in 2023 and earned freshman All-American status from ESPN. He led Clemson in receptions (52) and receiving yards (531) and had four touchdown receptions.
The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder became the fifth Clemson player since 2010 to record 50 receptions in a freshman season, joining Antonio Williams (56 in 2022), Artavis Scott (76 in 2014), Sammy Watkins (82 in 2011) and DeAndre Hopkins (52 in 2010).
