It’s safe to say this Clemson legend was impressed by the Tigers’ win over Arizona on Thursday night in the Sweet 16.
Former Clemson basketball great Horace Grant, a four-time NBA champion, had a message for the Tigers after they advanced to the Elite Eight with a 77-72 victory over the Wildcats in the West Regional at Crypto.com Arena – formerly Staples Center, where Grant played his home games as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers in the early 2000s.
Here’s what Grant had to say to the Clemson basketball team, via a social media post from Clemson Basketball on X (formerly Twitter):
“To the Clemson Tigers!!! It is not over there’s more work to be done!!! I have not seen teamwork like that since my Chicago Bulls days. Trust in the coaching staff but trust in the teammate that is next to you!!!! Go Tigers!!”
Grant was a first-round pick of the Chicago Bulls (10th overall) in the 1987 draft following his senior season at Clemson when he was a second-team All-American and Clemson’s first-ever ACC Player of the Year in basketball. He was inducted into the Clemson Hall of Fame in 1999 and the state of South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010.
A four-time NBA All-Defensive team (second-team) selection (1993-96), Grant won three NBA Championships with the Bulls and then won another NBA title with the Lakers.
Following wins over New Mexico, Baylor and Arizona in this year’s NCAA Tournament, sixth-seeded Clemson is set to make its second Elite Eight appearance in school history and first since 1980.
The Tigers (24-11) will take on No. 4 Alabama (24-11) on Saturday at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles (8:49 p.m., TBS).
