Clemson played host to this standout defensive back from the Peach State this spring, and he continues to stay in touch with the Tigers.
Decatur (Ga.) High School’s Kaleb Lanier traveled to Clemson last month, and the class of 2025 cornerback has remained in contact with corners coach Mike Reed since that visit.
“I have heard from Coach Reed since,” Lanier told The Clemson Insider this week. “We talk on the phone often and he tells me to keep coming back and soaking it all in. We have also talked about going to a Clemson camp this summer so he will be able to see me work out live.”
Lanier, who lists two dozen total scholarship offers, attended Clemson’s March 9 junior day.
It marked the first trip to Tiger Town for the 6-foot, 170-pound rising senior, and he came away impressed by the experience.
Looking back on the visit, Lanier said “the family atmosphere and the togetherness of the team really stands out.”
“The coaches have been there for a long time,” he said. “For example, Coach Reed has been there for 13 years now I believe, and many of the coaches are former players, which just shows it’s a place that the players love and want to be and come back to, and that stands out.”
Lanier isn’t sure right now when he’ll make it back to Clemson, but as far as upcoming visits, he is currently scheduled for two official visits to Duke and Indiana.
Lanier intends to make his commitment decision prior to the beginning of his senior campaign.
“I plan on committing in July before the season starts,” he said. “There’s no particular school in the lead right now. Still weighing my options, building my relationship with coaches and seeing where I can fit as a student-athlete in the program.”
Lanier’s offer list is a lengthy one that includes schools such as Georgia Tech, Duke, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Kentucky, LSU, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Wisconsin and Indiana.
As for Clemson, where do the Tigers stand with him at this point in his recruiting process?
“Although I don’t have an offer to Clemson, I would say Clemson is one of the schools I’m interested in,” he said. “They’re in the mix with the others right now I would say.”
Lanier saw action on both sides of the ball for Decatur as a junior last season, playing receiver in addition to defensive back. He posted 25 tackles and two interceptions, to go with 16 receptions for 245 yards and a touchdown.
