Carter Explains What Makes Clemson Special

There’s a lot of reasons Clemson linebacker Barrett Carter elected to return for his senior season, but the people is what always keeps him around.

During an appearance on 105.5 The Roar’s Road Rage, Carter discussed the decision to return and explained how the Tigers program and the culture it brings means so much to him.

“What makes Clemson so special is the people and the relationships and just how everyone is so genuine,” Carter said.

Ever since Carter arrived on campus, winning it all was paramount for him. Over his first three seasons, Carter hasn’t achieved the high goals he set for himself and Clemson.

Winning a national championship is the football reason he returned, and it’s something he hopes to rectify in 2024.

“From a football standpoint when I committed here, I made it a goal to win four national championships and that’s a pretty lofty goal, pretty extreme but I’m a competitor. I want to win in every single thing I do,” Carter said.

Looking back at his career so far, he said the “ball just didn’t roll their way” as the Tigers have failed to reach the top of the mountain again. Returning an All-ACC linebacker always helps in those hopes and Carter is that for Clemson.

Carter has totaled 151 tackles, 21 for loss and nine sacks. Those numbers will undoubtedly raise and he’s excited to be a senior leader for this group. Becoming a captain was a goal of his, and now he’ll be leading the Tigers defense in his final chance to win it all.

“Having the option to come back and really just rewrite the narrative and reinvent ourselves as a team and as a program,” Carter said. “I wanted to be a part of that and I want to be the next senior group to bring a national championship back to Clemson.”
