Clemson Set to Host Portal Target

Clemson head coach Brad Brownell has done some of his best recruiting work in the portal over the past few years and this offseason has been no different.

The Tigers have already added two transfers to the roster, with big man Viktor Lakhin being added from Cincinnati and guard Jaeden Zackery from Boston College.

The 6-foot-11 Lakhin was added after RJ Godfrey entered the portal and Zackery helps Clemson replace the production of Joe Girard.

With All-ACC standout PJ Hall announcing his NBA intentions on Friday, that leaves the Tigers in need of another body with some size to pair with Lakhin and returning big man Ian Schieffelin. San Diego State forward Elijah Saunders, who was a late entry into the portal, is reportedly set to take an official visit to Clemson beginning on Tuesday, and he would certainly fit that bill.

Saunders has already visited Washington and is at Virginia this weekend.

As a sophomore last season during the Aztecs run to the Sweet 16, Saunders appeared in all 37 games and had 21 starts. The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 6.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game and logged more than 20 minutes per contest.

Saunders shot 41.9 percent from the floor, 32.2 percent from beyond the arc and hit 96 percent of his free throw attempts.

Prior to signing at San Diego State, Saunders was a 4-star prospect coming out of high school and a McDonald’s All-American nominee. He will have two years of eligibility remaining wherever he lands.
