Brownell ‘Optimistic’ Clemson Star Will Return

Brad Brownell is awaiting the decision of his March Madness star, and he expressed where things stand as the NBA Draft deadline approaches.

Chase Hunter elected to declare for the draft while maintaining his eligibility to return. He was on the West All-Region team and turned into Clemson’s engine during the Elite Eight run.

As the final decision awaits, Brownell shared his thoughts Wednesday on where things stand with Hunter and his impending choice.

“I’m optimistic Chase will come back. He worked out for an NBA team this week,” Brownell said. “I’m excited for him to be able to do some of those things, I was so happy to watch him play at the level that he did in the NCAA Tournament. He was tremendous.”

As a fifth-year senior, Hunter averaged 12.9 points and 3.2 assists. He took his game to the next level with 21, 20 and 18-point games in the NCAA Tournament.

Hunter also proved to be an impressive facilitator with at least five assists in each tournament game. He has until June 16 to withdraw and return to Clemson or commit to the NBA Draft.
